Nick Holes was born and raised on Long Island, New York. He hails from Elmont. Nick graduated high school in 2001, and went on to college earning a business management degree from Five Towns College in 2005. Since he was about 16, he dreamed of becoming a body piercer. At the time, he thought it would be an awesome, fun profession. Today he realizes his passion is much more rewarding than he ever imagined.
It all started In February 2005, a few months before he graduated college, Nick received a great opportunity, a piercing apprenticeship. The rest, as they say, is history. Nick has been pierced well over 30 times, but for him piercing is not just about making some money or passing time doing something he likes. It is his life, a fantasy come true.
Nick sees his work as doing a lot more then just piercing people. In his words, "I help transform them." Nick told us, "there are many people out there who get piercings for purely aesthetic reasons. Then there are people who are doing it for a deeper meaning.” For nearly as long as he can remember, Nick felt that something was missing in his life. For him getting pierced or tattooed, is a metaphysical catharsis akin to solving a psychological mystery, restoring something the he felt was missing.
The more accomplished he has become in his craft, the more satisfaction and contentment he realizes. Nick has also done body suspensions and flesh pulls, along with scarification. He realizes that for most people, this all sounds painful or weird, but according to Nick, "once you realize that you are in charge of what your body is going through, that changes everything. You never really know what you are capable of until you challenge yourself." These marks, he explained, "you have to earn them."
As of 2015 Nick has been piercing for 10 years. Even now he explained, "I still get a big rush when I pierce someone. I can’t think of any other profession that could give me that same feeling." Nick also loves animals and the outdoors. In his spare time, he enjoys running, hiking, camping, hunting, and practicing outdoor skills. He has competed in several marathon/obstacle courses, and plans on taking his physical abilities to the limits even more in the near future.
Nick currently pierces at Dark Harbor Tattoo Society in Portland, ME.
